How I Chose This Topic:
I chose my topic by getting a list of suggestions from my teacher. I decided to research how the 19th Amendment impacted women’s rights and responsibilities in history. I researched multiple topics that looked interesting to me and I chose this topic because there was a lot of information and this topic seemed relatable. I knew that we were going to learn about women’s suffrage in school this year so I would have a lot of extra information. I hoped that researching the topic on my own would help me succeed when we learned about the topic in class.
How I Conducted My Research:
I conducted my research about this topic by using the databases that my school librarians recommended. The databases offered me books and online sites. I copied pages from books and printed pages from articles that I thought would be helpful. Then I took notes on the pages that I got from the library and used the information to fill out my research worksheet. The sources I used the most were The Fight for Women’s right to Vote in American History by Carol Rust Nash and Rosen Central Primary Source. In Carol Nash’s book I found a lot of information about women suffragists like, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucy Stone. In the Rosen Central Primary Source I found a lot of information on the organizations the women formed to have equal rights.
How I Selected My Presentation Category And Created My Project:
I chose to create a website for my LTA because I am good with using computers and I thought that it would be exciting. I created my website by using the Weebly website and watching the online seminars to understand the process. First I separated my research by creating different sub-topics and putting each on its own tab. I decided to split my research into 6 different categories; my home page, the life before the 19th Amendment, women suffragists, the 19th amendment, my process paper and my works cited.
Rights, Responsibilites And Actions of Those In Power:
The Seneca Falls Convention started the fight for women’s rights in 1848. The convention was created by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, two of the most radical and powerful suffragists. These women thought that they had the responsibility to fight for their own rights. The Seneca Falls Convention created the Declaration of Sentiments, stating that all men and women are created equal. Women suffragists created multiple organizations; the most influential of which were the National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA) and the American Women Suffrage Association (AWSA). The NWSA fought for women to be equal as men, to have equal education and jobs. Also they fought for women’s right to vote. The AWSA only fought for the women’s right to vote. The United States Government passed the 19th amendment on June 4, 1919 under Woodrow Wilson, and it was ratified on August 18th 1920 when the 36th state passed the amendment. The 19th amendment finally gave women the right to vote.
